EmploymentContact Hurricane Compressors

Compressors Systems Holland (CSH) B.V. has an enviable location in the industrial area of Vianen, Netherlands. Its close proximity to a canal that connects Vianen to Rotterdam—Europe’s largest port—facilitates worldwide shipping and enables the company to transport unusually large and heavy manufactured products. The central Holland location is also conducive to CSH marketplace expansion throughout Europe and other continents where it will continue to supply customized air and gas compressor and pump packages to customers mainly in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and chemical industries for onshore and offshore operations.

To address the oil and gas industry and also streamline compressor production, CSH recently contracted with Hurricane Compressors™ to produce five customized boosters that will incorporate mandatory European design regulations. These highly-specialized compressor units promise to impress the customer with their outstanding qualities, performance and European-ready status. (A future case study will cover the implementation of these units once they become operational on job sites and customer feedback is available.)

The current Hurricane Compressors air booster lineup already amazes CSH customers who demand higher efficiencies in less common, yet still challenging, drilling applications—two of which are drilling for water for vastly different end usages in very different locations.

INCREASING WATER PRODUCTIVITY TO MEET DEMANDS

While sales of famous brands of mineral water may have slipped recently in France—which is second only to Italy in bottled water consumption in Europe—global sales indicate the market is healthy and growing.

As a result, Hurricane Compressors wasn't completely surprised when a water drilling company in France contacted them to discuss a high pressure air booster to increase efficiency in drilling for mineral water. Hurricane turned to CSH to assist in processing the potential order. "Hurricane directed this customer to us because an American-made booster cannot be directly used in Europe without adjustments being made to meet the stringent European regulations," says Bob Visser, General Manager of CSH.

The French customer was particularly discerning about choosing a compressor company and booster for its job site requirements. To help prove the merits of a CSH air compression package, Visser took the customer to Norway to view a successful Hurricane/CSH compressor project in operation. Like the mineral water application, this job required greater efficiency in down-hole water drilling.

At the Norwegian job site, crews direct air drills to depths of up to 2000 meters to establish thermal wells that operate heat pumps. This type of heating/cooling system is common throughout Norway and frequently used in institutions and commercial facilities. The specialized 6T-276-41B/1000 significantly increases air drilling efficiency and it is now transported from site to site all over Norway to produce geothermal wells.

The Norway reference, along with the Hurricane Compressors excellent price/quality ratio and the simplicity of compressor design influenced the mineral water drilling company to choose a CSH air booster package. Within that package, the French customer chose Hurricane Compressors custom model 6T-855-62B/1500 to increase the company's drilling efficiency and water productivity.

CUSTOMIZING FOR CUSTOMER APPLICATION AND EUROPEAN REGULATIONS

"In both the French and Norwegian applications, the objectives were to drill deeper and faster," says Visser. Hurricane engineered precise compressor volumes and psi ratings to meet customer specifications and achieve these goals. The smaller size and lighter weight of the compressors—a hallmark of Hurricane compressors—were added benefits.

CSH and Hurricane Compressors joined in a conjunctive effort to incorporate strict European laws and regulation standards into the customization of the compressors in order to pass mandatory third party inspections on US-built machines. Changes included:

  • Adding enclosures for sound attenuation
  • Adjusting electrical control systems
  • Re-engineering pressure parts

REALIZING RESULTS FROM HURRICANE COMPRESSORS PRODUCTS

"In Norway's thermal well mining application, they were drilling without an air booster and the process was taking a very long time," says Visser. "With the Hurricane booster, they improved their drilling efficiency rate by 5 to 6 times."

The same results hold true for the Hurricane booster application in France’s mineral water drilling. "With these boosters, you can gain a lot of time," Visser says.

COMPRESSOR SYSTEMS HOLLAND SATISFACTION

"We are quite impressed with Hurricane's responsiveness to our requests and the fact that problems are resolved very quickly," says Visser. "We are most impressed with their willingness to cooperate with us on reconciling the differences between the European and American ways of engineering. We feel we already have a good relationship with Hurricane that will only get better with time."

Visser expects more Hurricane compressor sales to the water drilling industry, and is particularly optimistic about the scope of projected sales that are expected from the compressors presently being customized for the oil and gas applications.

"My customer is working for the company in France that produces a famous French brand of mineral water—Evian. It took this client more than three years to decide on air compressor equipment that would improve drilling for mineral water but, in the end, he bought the Hurricane booster."
